Artificial intelligence (AI) driven neurotechnologies have the potential to substantially improve possibilities and restore the capacities of patients. At the same time, these new technologies raise ethical and societal questions, regarding responsible design and implementation, data protection, accessibility and control. As a critical component of the NWO Crossover grant, we will in parallel to all neurotechnological projects evaluate the ethical and societal implications of the AI-driven neurotechnological solutions. A critical component of our consortium are the advisory boards including representatives from patient organizations who have input at all stages of project design and implementation. By harnessing our expertise and collective knowledge, we will develop recommendations and training courses for scientists, entrepreneurs and policy makers.
